The Rain Pavilion
Step into The Rain Pavilion, a space that celebrates sustainable reuse of polycarbonate light diffusers. The Rain Pavilion is a material-led project which seeks to re-imagine materials harvested from post-use buildings. The pavilion highlights how materials can create new environments for performances of dwelling, considering both sensory and aesthetic qualities. The design investigates the histories, ecologies, and manufacturing process of polycarbonate diffusers with a focus on the functional detailing and further cycles of deconstruction and re-use.
Bathe within the light and immerse within the shimmering rainwater collected on the pavillions surface. A multi-sensory experience of diffused light and shadow is created as water trickles down the exterior wall. Rainwater collects and bubbles on a magnified surface, revealing the material's prismatic surface geometry and creates irregular shapes of colour, light, and shadow.
